Now Enrolling: Promising Youth Center for Excellence Afterschool Program (2025–2026)

The Promising Youth Center for Excellence at Kentucky State University is now accepting enrollments for its 2025–2026 afterschool program, serving students in grades 3 through 8. This no-cost program provides a safe, supportive, and enriching environment designed to help children and youth thrive academically and personally.

Program Highlights:

  • One-on-one and small group mentoring

  • Tutoring provided by dedicated college student volunteers

  • Academic enrichment and homework help

  • Life skills and personal development enhancement

  • Cultural enrichment activities

  • Career exploration opportunities

  • Free transportation provided

Research shows that youth engaged in one-on-one mentoring for 12 months or longer experience significant improvements in self-esteem, academic performance, relationships with parents, and social skills. They are also less likely to skip school, use illegal drugs, or engage in aggressive behavior.

According to Dr. Herman E. Walston, Principal Investigator of  Mentoring Programs at Kentucky State University, “The power of mentoring creates a unique opportunity for collaboration, goal achievement, and real-world problem solving.”
